How MakePay works with Odoo
An Odoo invoice already carries your customer, currency, tax lines and payment terms. The MakePay Bookkeeping connection uses that invoice as the starting point for crypto checkout, then registers a verified settlement through Odoo’s normal payment workflow.
The connection supports Odoo 16–18 through JSON-RPC and Odoo 19 through JSON-2. Self-hosted Odoo, Odoo.sh and Odoo Online use the same merchant setup. Odoo Online needs a Custom plan with external API access; One App Free and Standard plans cannot use this API connection.
Before you connect
- A public HTTPS Odoo address, database name, dedicated internal user login and API key.
- The numeric database IDs of the company, bank or cash journal and inbound Manual payment method line.
- An Outstanding Receipts account on that method, with journal currency settings appropriate for the invoices you collect.
Set up Odoo with MakePay
- 01
Prepare the accounting journal
Ask your bookkeeper to choose the journal and Outstanding Receipts account for crypto settlements. The journal and inbound method must belong to the company you intend to connect. Record their numeric IDs using Odoo’s developer metadata tools.
- 02
Connect your Odoo company
Open MakeCrypto → Bookkeeping → Integrations → Odoo. Enter the server address, database, user, key and accounting IDs. Select JSON-2 for Odoo 19 or JSON-RPC for Odoo 16–18, then connect.
- 03
Sync before sending the invoice
Use Sync invoices. MakePay adds a payment link to the invoice’s Terms and Conditions while preserving existing terms. Regenerate the PDF after sync. For email templates and reminders, use the connected panel’s email snippet to include those terms.
- 04
Collect and reconcile
Share an issued invoice or its MakePay link. Checkout rereads the posted invoice’s live outstanding balance and currency. A confirmed settlement creates an inbound customer payment; check its allocation and finish any bank reconciliation in Odoo.
What happens when a customer pays
Invoice currency stays with the invoice
Customers pay through MakePay checkout while the Odoo invoice keeps its accounting currency. Drafts can receive a stable link for document preparation, but checkout opens only for posted customer invoices with an outstanding balance.
Odoo controls the final accounting state
MakePay verifies the payment’s customer, company, journal, method, amount, currency and invoice allocation. Depending on your journal, Odoo can show In Payment until your bookkeeper reconciles Outstanding Receipts. A checkout redirect alone never marks an invoice paid.
Check these connection limits
- Choose one payment flow per invoice. The separate self-hosted/Odoo.sh portal addon is an alternative to this Bookkeeping connection.
- Custom invoice reports must print the invoice terms for the payment link to appear. Previously downloaded PDFs keep their old content.
- Rotate expiring API keys before expiry. Refunds and accounting corrections require manual handling in both systems.
Setup resources
Follow the detailed connection guide and your software’s own account requirements. Configure merchant settlement before sharing a customer invoice.
